PVC Helping Build a Better World
With Earth Day coming up this weekend, we wanted to take a minute and appreciate the hard work that our entire industry is doing to help push the sustainability effort forward. Still, it seems that plastics, and PVC specifically, get an unjustly bad wrap when it comes to the environment based on false narratives. What more can we do?
People are starting to recognize the benefits that PVC has in bringing clean water to communities around the world, the role that we have in a sanitary medical world, and in food packaging, but are we getting enough recognition for the benefits that PVC building products have in making the world a better place?
A quick google search came up with the following from www.8billiontrees.com, “Single-family homes in the U.S. averaged 2,491 sq ft in size in 2020. This size requires between 117-127 trees to construct.” I would think that certainly the high quality and durability of PVC building products such as windows, decks, siding, and more are all helping to cut back on the need for this many trees. This is a message worth spreading.
Performance Additives is a proud member of the Vinyl Institute and would encourage everyone in the industry to join or at least peruse their website for more facts about the benefits of PVC. They are working hard to fight the bad science out there and make sure that PVC is recognized for the durable, environmentally conscious product that it is.
Thanks for taking the time to be partnered with Performance Additives and please let us know how we can help grow your business.
Q1 2023: Inventory Catch Up and Cost Forecasting
From our viewpoint, the first quarter of 2023 was certainly down from the boom of 2022 demand. Interest rates have slowed construction and building material suppliers seemed to be using Q1 to deplete the inventory they had in stock from the slow Q4 of 2022. With Q2 just starting, we are already seeing a pickup at a lot of our customers and are optimistic about the Q2/Q3 time period.
Even with the pickup in demand, we expect cost pressure to remain strong. Slow global demand has brought ocean freight rates back in line which improves the cost position for Performance Additives, and we are passing these savings along as soon as inventories allow.
